What is Rosacea and is there really a treatment for it? Rosacea is a long-lasting common disorder of the facial skin that is estimated to affect over 16 million Americans. Onset usually occurs between the ages of 20-40 of age. There is no real cure for Rosacea, but we can definitely help control the signs and symptoms.
The most common factors that cause flare-ups include hot water, loofahs, rough towels (any physical products or exfoliation), hot foods and drinks, alcohol, drying and greasy cosmetics or perfumed products.
Even though there is no scientific research performed on rosacea and heredity, there is some evidence that suggests it may be inherited. Nearly 40% of patients surveyed by the National Rosacea Society said they could name a relative who had similar symptoms. There is also a strong link that ethnicity plays a role in one's potential to develop Rosacea, such as Irish and English descent.
There is good new for treating rosacea and getting it under control. IPL, Intense Pulse Light is a proven technology for the treatment of vascular lesions. Most patients may need up to 4 sessions and maintenance treatments thereafter. In addition, using Metronidazole (most commonly prescribed as Metrogel 1%) an anti-bacterial agent will also help calm rosacea down.
At Jardin Medical Spa, we are able to combine IPL therapy with an at home rosacea kit to help reduce and diminsh the appearance of redness. For more information, please contact Jardin Medical Spa at 484-562-0591 or visit www.jardinmedical.com
